The untimely death of rapper Pop Smoke has caused the hip hop industry to reflect on matters of violence, once again. Early Friday (February 21) morning, Jadakiss released his latest single “Huntin Season” featuring Pusha T. The track was exclusively shared on TIDAL, but by the afternoon, Pusha shared on Instagram that it was being removed out of respect for Pop Smoke.
The 20-year-old rapper was shot and killed during a home invasion in the Hollywood Hills area of Los Angeles. On their track “Huntin Season,” Jadakiss and Pusha T rap about hunting and taking out their fellow rappers, a sentiment that seemed insensitive considering the current climate.
‘Hunting Season’ was a request that IcePick Jay (RIP) always had and in light of his death me and [Jadakiss] made an incredible song,” Pusha wrote on social media. “With that being said, the whole concept of hunting season and the hypothetical ideas of ‘killing rappers’ isn’t [sitting] well with me while mourning the recent death of Pop Smoke. Rest in peace Pop and condolences to his family.” Check out his Instagram post below.
